What makes a ceremony truly special?

We recently answered some questions for our lovely industry pals over at Ivory Tribe and we thought we'd share our responses with you all here as well to get those creative ideas flowing for your upcoming wedding ceremony! x

1) What makes a wedding ceremony special, in our opinion? The music haha... seriously, the music hits you in 'all the feels' (coincidentally, the name of our all day duo/dj package) from the moment your guests arrive! Shameless plugs aside, a ceremony is made special by the people you share it with and the genuine, authentic love between 2 people choosing to spend the rest of their lives together. We are suckers for some tear-jerking, heart-felt personalised vows, and we also love hearing the funny anecdotes in the couples story so far.

2) What aspects are important in creating a unique, super special ceremony? It's important to make it your own by adding personal touches that reflect you guys as a couple - that is what makes it uniquely yours and super special. Some examples of this might be drinks on arrival pre-ceremony, or a song from the first gig/concert you went to together, or a personalised song written just for you using your story as a couple (yes, we offer that service too), having a page-man instead of a page boy, or both walking down the aisle together to a super upbeat dance song, or pulling names out of a hat mid-ceremony to decide who your 2 official witnesses will be etc there are so many ways to add your own personal spin to the ceremony and break the outdated traditions - there are no rules these days (besides the legal requirements of the marriage act of course, did we mention Ryan is also a registered celebrant?!?!).

3) What advice would you give to a couple planning their ceremony?

Firstly, make it your own and do it your way. And secondly, hire live musicians to take care of all of your pre-ceremony and ceremony music - we'll perform your chosen songs for as little or as long as they need to be on the day, so it all flows seamlessly - for example, transitioning to the chorus a little earlier or extending the outro if need be, until the celebrant gives us the nod that you/they are ready to begin. You can relax knowing your music is all taken care of and enjoy the epic moment you've been dreaming of for so long!
